7 Finishes That Will Immediately Date Your New Build or Remodel

Stay Timeless

7 Finishes that will immediately date your new build or remodel.

A few of these may be controversial, but here is some advice so your home will look timeless, even 10 years from now.

1. Gray Flooring

Stay away from gray. Install a pale oak or medium brown, and your floors will always look timeless.

2. Busy Countertops

Countertops shouldn't have so much movement; keep them quiet. The look of white marble, white quartz, or black soapstone is timeless.

3. Crazy Floor Tile

Don't use trendy black, gray or loud patterns. Select a 2" white hex, 6"white hex, simple white marble, limestone, or charcoal herringbone with white grout to love your floors forever.

4. Black, Taupe, or Grey Bathroom Fixtures

Step away from the black tub. Choose white tubs and sinks, which will always be in style.

5. Store Fireplaces

Unless you live in a cabin or on a lake, stone fireplaces tend to feel dated quickly. A traditional millwork fireplace that relates to the millwork in your kitchen is timeless.

6. Trendy Bathroom Vanities

Don´t go all in on the black and white trend. White countertops, a white, light oak or medium wood vanity, and nickel fixtures is the way to go.

7. Paint Colors that Don´t Relate to Your Finishes

Always pick your paint colors last. Get your new flooring, backsplash, countertops installed first, then review the color wheel to pick your wall color. Warmer whites are coming back, but again, should relate to the finishes you chose.

Let´s love our homes forever! This advice was taken from one of my favorite traditional designers, Maria Killam.

In the News

While many of us have heard about CalFHA’s Dream for All Program, did you know that the County of San Diego has a Downpayment and Closing Cost Assistance Program for people with an income 80% or less of the area median income (AMI)? They have another $20,000,000 that they need to place by June 2024. If you know of someone that fits this criteria, I’d be happy to connect them with a specialist.
